Michigan is one of the 50 states of the United States of America. The state is actually divided into two parts separated by a water channel turning them into twin peninsulas. The name of the state is derived from a French word meaning large water. It is also popularly known as The Great Lakes State and the Water Wonderland. Michigan ranks 8th in terms of total population among all the states. The capital city, Detroit, is by far the largest and most popular one. Apart from tourism, the state relies mostly on its agriculture for income, being a place where a large number of fruits, vegetables and crops are grown.
