Michigan is one of the 50 states of the United States of America. The state is actually divided into two parts separated by a water channel turning them into twin peninsulas. The name of the state is derived from a French word meaning large water. It is also popularly known as The Great Lakes State and the Water Wonderland. The treasure of water earns the state a lot of tourists and recreational boating, surfing and fishing enthusiasts. The inland water is present in the form of 65 thousand small and larger lakes. Michigan ranks 8th in terms of total population among all the states. The capital city, Detroit, is by far the largest and most popular one. Apart from tourism, the state relies mostly on its agriculture for income, being a place where a large number of fruits, vegetables and crops are grown.
